Good noise study results and additional research
During the latest Task Force meeting of September 18, the Project Office presented the results of the seismic noise measurements at the Hoof and Beusdael drilling sites. These results are summarized with the evidence of the excellent geology of all corner points, including Asse. Further the seismic measurements in Beusdael and Hoof are than our benchmark in Terziet, indicating that the EMR is an excellent location. The subsurface seismic results of Asse, which is considered a low-risk site based on surface measurements, are still pending.
A proposal
The ET-EMR project office now enters a new phase in the preparation of an ET site proposal. Last year, the EMR honored the ETO request to investigate the feasibility of both an triangle and an L-configuration by conducting a desk study to the L-configuration, which identified a possible trajectory for an L in the region.
Additional research
This summer, the EMR Scientific Advisory Committee advised the Task Force to further investigate the L-configuration. Now that the triangle feasibility study is reaching its conclusion, capacity is becoming available to further investigate this trajectory. Therefore, the Project Office has received a mandate from the Task Force to investigate the physical feasibility of constructing an L-configuration for the Einstein Telescope in the EMR.
