TNO supports project office Einstein Telescope EMR
The Einstein Telescope – Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR) project office will be supported for the next two years by TNO – Geological Survey of the Netherlands. That support will focus on the feasibility study of subsurface suitability. To this end, Michiel van der Meulen on behalf of TNO and Nikhef director Stan Bentvelsen recently signed an agreement.
Nikhef is the scientific partner in the project office that will map the feasibility of the Einstein Telescope in the Euroregio Meuse-Rhine in the coming years. TNO (Dutch organisation for applied scientific research) works on innovative solutions with demonstrable impact for a safe, healthy, sustainable and digital society and the earning capacity of the Netherlands. The Geological Survey of the Netherlands is the knowledge and research centre of the Dutch subsurface.
In the cooperation with the Einstein Telescope EMR project office, it has been agreed that TNO will contribute to the integral plan of approach to further determine the suitability of the subsurface. TNO will also supervise and review the implementation of that approach. Finally, TNO will also assess the research results.

Nikhef director Stan Bentvelsen: “With such a large and complex task as working on the Einstein Telescope, it is important to be supported by good partners. We have a lot of expertise in-house, but it is always wise to have another expert looking on, advising and weighing up the result. We are pleased that a leading institute like TNO is going to do that for us.”
